Supervising Agreements

stock2.jpgPhysician Assistant statutes that became effective at the end of August, 2009 require that a PA has an agreement with the supervising physician that:

1.  Provides that the supervising physician will exercise supervision over the PA pursuant to the Medicine and Surgery Practice Act and regulations governing PAs.

2.  Defines the scope of practice of the PA including any limitations on prescribing authority.

3.  Provides that the supervising physician will retain professional and legal responsibility for medical services rendered by the PA pursuant to such agreement.

4.  Be sign by both the PA and supervising physician.

NAPA has created two sample agreements for use.  PAs and supervising physicians may construct their own agreement as long as the required four elements listed above are included.  A copy of the agreement must be kept at EACH practice site.  Please go to the downloads section of our website to view these agreements.
