If my supervising physician leaves the practice, and there are other physicians that are back-up supervisors, do I need to do anything more to practice?
Great question! Yes you do! While the other physicians are listed as back-up, they are not designated as your primary supervisory physician. According to the State of Nebraska rules and regulations, a primary supervisor needs to be designated, or it is as if you are practicing without one at all. If your supervising physician leaves the practice, make sure you check with Nebraska Health and Human Services (NHHS) Licensure to make sure you have an updated primary listed. If not, you are not practicing supervised and are subject to penalties, fines, or worse. You should never presume that your clinic administrator or employer will automatically know to check this. It is your license and responsibility. Click on our link to NHHS from the home page and take a glance at who is listed for you. Protect your license and ability to practice as a PA!
