I am currently serving as President-Elect and over the past 6 years, I have served on the NAPA CME Planning Committee, currently chairing the committee. I am committed to being involved in my state organization and my profession. With this experience, I have gained an in-depth knowledge, not only on issues relating to the BOD and continuing medical education needs for our profession, but issues relating to NAPA’s work for local PAs during this crucial time in our profession. In addition to my local and state academy volunteer leadership experience, I also volunteer out of the country on medical mission trips every year. As President of NAPA, I will serve as a role model to my peers by demonstrating the behaviors and values that will help our profession and our state academy continue to make progress and move forward. I will support membership recruitment. As our profession continues to grow, it is my goal to focus on recruiting and retaining members and I will make it a priority to be responsive to our members’ needs. I believe strongly that NAPA serves to represent all PAs from across the state and I want to see PAs join together to become involved. My experience as Treasurer has been very positive. During my term, as a member of the Investment Committee, we have made major changes in how NAPA investments are managed. Consequently, we have designed an investment risk strategy that reflects the expectation and needs of the Academy. My familiarity with the annual income/expeneses is very helpful to the Board, especially when forcasting Academy needs and planning for changes. I graduated from the UNMC Physician’s Assistant program in 2003. After graduation worked in general cardiology for Nebraska Heart Institute in Lincoln, NE for five and a half years before changing paths. I currently work in Orthopedics in Lincoln and am enjoying the clinical and surgical aspects. I would like to be re-elected to the NAPA board for many reasons. First I love to be involved and have always had a great interest for NAPA. I have attended the annual NAPA conference in Kearney since 1998, even as an undergraduate student at UNL interested in the PA profession. I was a founder of the PA club at UNL, and before I even knew much about the profession myself, I was trying to promote it. While at UNMC I served as the PA Class Treasurer. Over the past three years I have enjoyed being a member of the NAPA board serving as the Secretary. I would like to continue in this role or be considered for a board member at large position. I have a wonderful family who supports me; including my husband; Brian, our five-year-old son, Trey and 18-month-old daughter, Mia. If re-elected to the board, a few issues I would like to help improve or change include: 1.Healthcare Reform This has become an extremely important issue with astronomical consequences. It is extremely important we continue to take a stand on a local and national level as this is going to continue to affect our reimbursement and long-term job security. 2.Specialty Exams I want to help address on a state and national level the pros and cons of the specialty exams. 3.Recertification I feel this process is going to continue to change and I want to help direct it in the right direction. I would like to see the recertification process only have to take place every 10 years like physicians. NAPA has come a long way but there are definitely a lot of areas we need to continue to grow. If re-elected, I know I can help make a difference and look forward to being a part of the wonderful journey ahead. I appreciate your consideration in re-electing me to the NAPA board.
